Serving Hernando County Voters Since 2004

I have served the voters of Hernando County since February 17, 2004. I have personally built and strive to maintain organization and efficiency within the elections process all the way down to where it matters most: with you the voter at your polling place on Election Day. It would be my honor and privilege to serve as Hernando County Supervisor of Elections.

8+ YEARS ELECTION EXPERIENCE

I began my career with the Hernando County Supervisor of Elections office as Community Relations Coordinator. Over the past 8 years I have proven myself knowlegeable, and capable of efficiently and successfully administering fair, accurate and transparent elections. I was promoted to Director of Operations in December of 2010.

Fiscal Conservative

Most recently, I created and successfully implemented a redistricting plan that saved Hernando County taxpayers over $33,000 and continues to save money today. I also implemented online reporting for candidates which saves staff time and money. I continue to look for ways to make the office more economically efficient.

ELECTION ADMINISTRATION

I have actively participated in the administration of 15 elections: 11 Federal Elections, 2 Special Elections and Hernando County's first ever All Mail Ballot Election. I successfully oversaw and administered the Federal Presidential Preference Republican Primary on January 31, 2012 and the local Primary on August 14, 2012 in Hernando County.

KNOWLEDGE

I have an AA in Computer Science from Pasco Hernando Community College and a BA in Communications from the University of South Florida. I understand and have a working knowledge of the Florida Election Laws and Division of Elections Rules and Opinions that govern Election Administration, the Florida Voter Registration System, the Voter Focus Database, the GEMS Server and Ballot Database software, the Ballot on Demand printer and software, the Accu-vote Optical Scan voting equipment, the TSX Touch Screen voting equipment and the Electronic Voter Identification (EViD) equipment.

STRENGTHS AND SKILLS

I am organized, efficient and consistent. I am a powerful multi-tasker and have the unique ability to coordinate multiple procedures and events. I thrive on analyzing, refining and perfecting procedures. I have a record of administering fair, transparent and accurate elections.

EFFICIENT AND ORGANIZED

In 2006 I completely reorganized the voting process at the polls for both the poll workers and the voters. I created and implemented detailed organized manuals, supply kits and improved forms for each poll worker position. I made the process of voting easy, friendly and consistent at each polling place.

NONPARTISAN OFFICE

The Supervisor of Elections office is nonpartisan and run by Florida Statute; not party lines. I have consistently maintained a nonpartisan approach to my job over the past 8 years. I treat every candidate and voter with dignity and respect regardless of party affiliation.

Bio

Hi, I am Elizabeth Townsend. Thank you for wanting to find out more about me.

I am ready to bring meaningful new ideas, new leadership and a new vision combined with over 8 years of election experience to the Supervisor of Elections office.

I began my career in the elections office in 2004 as Community Relations Coordinator and in 2010 I was promoted to Director of Operations. Over the past eight years I have gained the knowledge and experience needed to lead this office on day one and I have the vision required to move it forward.

I have administered 15 elections:

  • 12 federal elections
  • 2 special elections
  • Hernando County's first ever all mail ballot election

Most recently, while others suggested using an outside vendor, which would have resulted in additional expense and diminished efficiency, I formed a partnership with the Hernando County Planning department and Property Appraiser’s office, utilized existing GIS mapping software and my intimate knowledge of the county to successfully create and implement a redistricting plan that saved Hernando County taxpayers well over $33,000 and continues to save money today.

I have and will continue to save taxpayer money, hold the line on spending and provide the exceptional service the voter's of Hernando County have come to know and expect from me.

I have carried out my job responsibilities in a non partisan manner and have proven I will continue to do so by treating all voters and candidates with dignity and respect regardless of party affiliation.

As Director of Operations, I have provided accurate and timely election results and most recently completed a machine and manual recount of more than 20,000 ballots in one day.

As Supervisor of Elections, I will continue to conduct community outreach, utilize technology to create efficiencies and save taxpayer money and ensure the highest integrity and transparency in the electoral process.

I am a fourth generation Floridian and have been a part of this community for 39 years. I am asking for the opportunity to serve this county as your next Supervisor of Elections. I have the experience, the ideas and the passion to lead this office. I respectfully ask for your vote on November 6th.
